Tidepooling

2025
Unglazed ceramic

A project completed on islands off the coast of Portland, ME

All clay used was reduction fired reclaim from Portland Pottery

I first documented the work when I placed the pots in the pools, and continued documentation in the following weeks as they started to be reclaimed by the tides.

Maine’s coasts are covered with shards of pottery from old ceramic. I wanted to throw my pots in the water to feel some part of the cycle.

Water helped spin these objects into being, and the Earth rotated to disassemble the forms using water pulled by the moon’s gravity.

The ceramic is cracked into shards, polished smooth, then ground to dust.
